Verendrye Electric Cooperative, headquartered in Velva, is a non-profit electric cooperative that was formed in 1939 in the tiny town of Verendrye, located about 13 miles northeast of Velva. The cooperative started as part of the rural electrification movement when rural areas did not have power.
In addition to serving rural areas in 7 counties, Verendrye serves many large and small businesses and homes in the City of Minot and all the homes, businesses and military facilities on the Minot Air Force Base. Verendrye has a full service center in Minot and outposts at the Minot Air Force Base and in Harvey.Today Verendrye stays true to its purpose of providing affordable, reliable electricity and being a part of the communities it serves.
