Rapunzel & Hyronomous A. Frog, The Frog Prince

THEATRE OFF THE SQUARE IN WEATHERFORD proudly presents their youth productions, Rapunzel by Karen Boettcher-Tate and Hyronomous A. Frog, The Frog Prince, adapted by Edith Weiss, both produced by special arrangement with Pioneer Drama. These productions are directed by Katie Arthurs and Laurel Summerfield with Coty McNiel as Assistant Director and Jessica Michel as Stage Manager. Rapunzel and Hyronomous A. Frog, The Frog Prince begin Friday, June 30, and run two weekends through July 9.

Rene Shwartzbuckle is cuckoo for a turnip-like vegetable called rapunzel. When she spots a mouth-watering patch of the plant in Witch Izwitch’s garden, she sends her husband Walt out to ’borrow’ some. Witch Izwitch is certainly not amused! We then jump ahead many years to Rapunzel Shwartzbuckle’s 18th birthday. The witch whisks poor, innocent Rapunzel away to a tower in the forest. From here, a boisterously entertaining rescue attempt begins! Filled with plenty of action and fresh, hysterical characters, this show gives a new twist to an old story and a gentle message about the nature of beauty.

Members of the cast of Rapunzel are: Brianna Glick as Rapunzel; Preston Dunagan as Walter Shwartzbuckle; Lilly Hamilton as Rene Shwartzbuckle; Bryan Beamer as King Furaday; Sandy Strittmatter as Queen Furaday; Ian White as Bumpas; Shane Westbrook as Markie; Creasey Cantrell as Lew; Elli Hayes as Witch Izwitch; Mallory Legg as Glumpwart 1; Logan Morrow as Glumpwart 2; Evelyn Woody as Glumpwart 3; Kaylin Reynolds as Glumpwart 4; Emma Redington as Parsley; Mia Cole as Rosemary; Sienna Pendergrass as Thyme; Preston Holcomb as Squashly; Jason Beamer as Nort; Gabe Cole as Naseum; Emma Holcomb as Cram; Lucia McCoy as Spam; and Karah Keller as Sam.

A take on the classic fairytale, The Frog Prince, this play will delight audiences of all ages. Hyronomous is bored and unhappy as a frog. He’s larger than the other frogs and hates the taste of flies. When he finds out he is a human under a spell, he sets out on an adventure to find the one that can set him free! He meets crazy characters in a castle and a friend who tries to help him on his quest.

Members of the cast of Hyronomous A. Frog, The Frog Prince are: Ian White as Hyronomous A. Frog; Sandy Strittmatter as Gloria the Good Witch; Riley Clark as Aunt Queen Bea; Lilly Hamilton as Princess Gladiola; Allie Jones as Delphinium; Preston Dunagan as Sir Lancelot Prancelot; and Creasey Cantrell as Arthur the Page.

Please bring your family: children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and neighborhood kids to a delightful evening or afternoon of fun beginning Friday, June 30, and running through Sunday, July 9. Show times are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 pm (different from our usual time of 8:00 pm) and Sunday at 2:00 pm. Theatre Off The Square, the only live theatre in Parker County, is located at 114 North Denton Street.
