TROY, MI
05/01/2023 11:41 AM

The Troy Historic Village will be hosting Supper with a Soldier on May 13th from 4:00-8:00PM. Visitors to the Village will be transported back to the 1860s to experience the sights and sounds of the American Civil War. Explore the Village grounds as you visit with costumed reenactors portraying the soldiers and civilians of the era. Dinner- generously Provided by Honey Baked Ham of Troy- is included in the ticket price.

“People hear about our Civil War program for 8th graders and want to know if they can visit. We decided a few years ago to make a cool program just for the public. It will have some overlap with the 8th grade program, of course, but lots of it will be new and different. Plus, Honey Baked Ham is providing guests with a great meal, and were going to make sure there are some vegetarian and gluten-free options available” says Youth Programs Director Alex Konieczny.

Union and Confederate soldiers will be encamped on the grounds, showcasing the food, equipment, drill, and living conditions typical of soldiers of both sides.  Reenactors will also be portraying surgeons and hospital stewards, describing medical procedures and equipment during the war.

Civilian reenactors from the Colombia Society will be onsite discussing women’s domestic roles in the Spring including food, gardening, pest control, and spring cleaning. Also onsite will be a reenactor portraying a phrenologist – someone who measures a person’s skull to determine their personality traits.

“Tickets are being sold in time slots, so you will work your way through in a small group” says Executive Director Jen Peters, “small groups head out every fifteen minutes, and you are welcome to take your time and stay as long as you need.”

Tickets are $25/adult and $20/youth aged 6-17 years. Members of the Troy Historical Society get the discounted rate of $22/adult and $17/youth (ages 6-17 years). Children under 5 years old are free. Dinner is included in your ticket price. Go to www.troyhistoricvillage.org/programs/supper-with-a-soldier/ for more information and to register.
