2nd Annual U-tica Palooza: Honoring & Remembering Those with Alzheimer’s/Dementia.
On June 17 at Grant Park in Utica at 9 am will be the 5K walk & flea market, the afternoon mini road rally (starts at 1 pm), the evening “Making Memories Last” Comedy Show (showtime at 7 pm). You can attend 1, 2 or all 3 of the events. This community wide event has been created to honor or remember those who are on the Alzheimer’s/Dementia journey and give families/loved one’s different options on how to support or remember. The title of Utica Palooza came about because all 3 activities are happening in Utica-walk & flea market in Grant Park, mini–Road Rally thru the city and Comey Show at the American Legion Hall. The charities who have partnered for the event are Sparkle Network and Woman’s Life Chapter 911 Macomb Angels.
The first activity of the day is the 5K walk. Walkers have the option to participate in person or be a “Virtual Walker”. The Virtual Walkers will have a heart placed on the fencing to show their support. For those who would like to walk in person, you will be enjoying the beauty of Grant Park, on this summer morning. You will receive a T-shirt, bib, and special goodies. There is the option to form a team of 4 or more this year as well. Alongside the walk a flea market will be taking place as well from 9 am to noon. Various businesses will be setting up from cooking goods and jewelry to yummy snacks and all in between. Vendor spots are available.
The second activity of the day is a mini road rally. The event starts at 1 pm with the starting point at Grant Park with a stop time of 5 pm. The clues will be directing the participants to various locations & businesses throughout the city. A stop may be more than just a business in town and many of the stops are going to be very creative in what you do.
The third activity of the day is the “Making Memories Last” Comedy Show at the American Legion Hall. Doors will be opening at 6 pm with the show starting at 7 pm. The comics participating are MC Moe Lietz, Justin Divozzo and Steve Smargon. They all have different views on where life has taken them.
