The Michigan Chamber Foundation is excited to announce that the Great Lakes State will host the National Civics Bee in 2024, an initiative to encourage more young Americans to engage in civics and contribute to their communities.

Our ask

Spread the word: Have a middle schooler or know of one? Forward this email to parents, teachers or principals in your local school district. But don't wait — participation begins with a first-round essay competition, closing Jan. 8, 2024.

About the National Civics Bee

Who's eligible: All Michigan 6th, 7th and 8th graders from public, private, charter, and home schools across both peninsulas.

How it works: It starts with a first-round essay competition submitted via one of the following participating local chambers. Don’t worry if there isn’t a chamber in your specific community, just pick the nearest one!

Battle Creek Area Chamber
Canton Chamber of Commerce
Chaldean American Chamber of Commerce
Grand Rapids Chamber
Jackson County Chamber of Commerce
Southwest Michigan Regional Chamber


The top 20 students for each of the six above chambers will advance to a live community quiz event taking place between February and April of 2024.

From there, the top three finishers from each local chamber – or 18 total students – will move on to Michigan’s inaugural National Civics Bee slated for July 2024 in Lansing with a chance to compete in the championships Bee in Washington, D.C. next fall — and earn up to $50,000 in prizes!”
