Starting Here, Starting Now is a thrilling and touching musical revue using the songs of Richard Maltby, Jr., and David Shire (Big, Baby, Closer Than Ever). The production offers a tender-tough inventory of love and the lonesome lack thereof. Made for each other, the wry lyrics, combined with buoyant music, forge a fast-moving, ingratiating look at how love can go right, wrong or nowhere. From first kiss to painful breakup, romantic relationships come full circle in this intimate revue. John Berst, now in his fifth season at Canterbury, stages the production, as well as leading musical direction. Berst is a faculty member of the University of Miami musical theatre training program. Choreography is by Elena Farley. The cast includes J. Cole Becton, Noah Bryant, Elena Farley, and Angel Purl. Scenic design is by Peyton Kistler with lighting by Robin Eaken. Julia Parr provides costume design and Garnett Vires will be production stage manager. The Canterbury Resident Company is comprised of theatre artists hired from throughout the country, which has produced a season of musicals and plays in downtown Michigan City since 1969.
