Job Posting – Executive Director of the Troy Community Coalition, responsible for the leadership and strategic direction to support the organization’s mission of preventing substance abuse. Position is full time (40-hour work week), with some evening and weekends required. Salary is dependent upon education and previous work experience.

 

Description of duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead a nationally recognized model community coalition that serves a suburban community of 87,000 residents.
  • Develop and implement prevention strategies based on community needs as determined by data collected from all available sources.
  • Influence and promote community norms to those supporting a lifestyle free from substance abuse through environmental strategies affecting the total population.
  • Work with businesses, the City of Troy and Troy School District administration and personnel, parents, students, board members, interns, and volunteers to reduce drug and alcohol abuse in the community.
  • Supervise the day-to-day activities of staff, interns, and a host of community volunteers.
  • Educate community members on current drug trends and substance abuse prevention.
  • Maintains the financial integrity of the non-profit organization by creating, proposing, and managing an annual budget of approximately $175,000.
  • Research and apply for any and all available grant funding and administer any awarded grants.
  • Participate in City, County, and State committees, meetings, and organizations (Troy Chamber Non-Profit Networking meetings, Alcohol Policy Issues meetings, Michigan Liquor Control Commission Hearings, Troy City Council Meetings, etc.).
  • Track and report prevention policies and initiatives throughout the State of Michigan.
  • Market, manage, and schedule academic prevention programs and projects with a focus on students in the Troy Public Schools and community.
  • Evaluate new and existing programs to ensure the quality and integrity of each program.
  • Interview, hire and provide orientation for new staff members and interns.
  • Recruit board members to serve on the Executive Board and Advisory Board.
  • Works with Board President in preparing agendas for meetings.
  • Organize, host, and participate in Executive Board meetings.
 
Requirements

Education, Skills, and Knowledge required:

  • Master’s degree preferred, but previous experience will be considered.
  • Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) desired.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to generate new funding sources and new funding ideas.
  • Must be able to persuasively apply for and support the Partnership for Success (PFS) Grant and other potential grants and complete all requirements for grant eligibility.

 

Personal Qualities:

  • Must have a commitment to prevent drug, alcohol, and tobacco abuse.
  • Must have high quality work ethics and good references.
