Superintendent of Solid Waste

The Superintendent is responsible for oversight and operation of all aspects of the Public Works Solid Waste Division including landfill, transfer station, reclamation, education, gas to energy, sludge disposal, and recycling operations. Duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Managing all personnel of the Solid Waste Division, including application review and hiring;
  • Responding to Solid Waste complaints and concerns;
  • Securing and opening buildings and office complex, assigning schedules, & inspecting daily work;
  • Handing personnel issues and training on safety and operational processes and policies;
  • Assisting with annual Solid Waste Department Budget;
  • Assisting  with  snow-clearing,  road  salting,  an  heavy equipment operating as needed;
  • Composing job estimates and verifying related work;
  • Ensuring all State, Federal, and Local permit requirements are met.
Requirements
High school diploma; Solid Waste Manager Certification; Considerable training in sanitary landfill maintenance, methane gas collection, recycling, drainage, safety and construction and related personnel and equipment resource management; Working knowledge of principles and practices of civil engineering; Ability to supervise a large, diverse workforce. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Competency in Microsoft Office Suite. Valid driver’s license. Class B with valid DOT physical card preferred. Ability to obtain required job-related certifications. Willingness to be on call 24/7 for emergencies. Ability to pass drug screening and background check.
