Police Communications Specialist I

The Police Communications Specialist I receives, forwards, and handles all emergency calls, all non-emergency calls, and all administrative calls that come into the Sheriff’s Office. This role handles police calls for the entire county to include the Delmar Police Department, and other allied agencies as needed and works with the Communications Operator II in the absence of an immediate supervisor. 


 
Requirements
High School Diploma or GED. Working knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Words, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat. Successful completion of the Emergency Telecommunicator (ETC), Emergency Police Dispatch Certification (EPD, Pro-QA), and NCIC certification training. Working knowledge of departmental computer system(s), phone system(s), recording system, and 800 Mhz radio system. Ability to obtain ICS 100, 200, & 700 certification. Ability to communicate articulately via phone and in person. Ability to receive, retain, and transfer information in intense, stressful situations. Ability to type at a reasonable speed and accuracy. Ability to work as a team and independently. Valid Driver’s License. Ability to pass intensive background check, driving record check, credit check, and all previous employers for the last 5 years. Ability to pass lie detector test and drug test.
