About

We would like to thank you for taking the time to read about us and how Kit Fox Outfitters was born. It was back in the spring of 2014 husband and wife were sitting in an Irish pub discussing the outdoors and adventures over some beers and began drafting plans for independent educational outdoor gear shop. The goal was to provide quality gear along with educational and certification courses to everyone who seeks adventure, novice to experts. So, like all good thing, Kit Fox Outfitters was born in an Irish pub.

We are a veteran owned independent outdoor gear shop, passionate about supporting the local community as well as the neighboring backcountry communities by providing quality gear, certification courses such as CPR, First Aid, Wilderness First Aid, Wilderness First Responder and so many more. We are based out of Ramona, California also known as the “Gateway to Adventure” for so many outdoor enthusiasts and the opportunities San Diego County has to offer. Our shop is a great stop for those who explore the backcountry from Anza Borrego to Mt. Laguna and everywhere in-between.

Colin Macdonald, owner, and CEO grew up exploring the Central Coast of California, particularly Carmel Highlands and Big Sur. Following in his father’s footsteps in the fire service, he attended the Monterey Peninsula Fire Academy in 1999 and served as a Paid Call Firefighter, gaining vital skills in emergency medicine. In 2000, Colin joined the United States Marine Corps, working on aircraft for twelve years and earning the Sikorsky Life Saving Award for his role in a pilot rescue. Life after the Marine Corps, Colin earned a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership from National University. Then continued training by becoming an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) and Wilderness First Responder. He is currently certified as an instructor from various organizations like American Heart Association, American CPR Training, HSI, Mountain Training Network and Sierra Rescue International. Today, he combines his skills learned in aviation technical writing with his dedication to making outdoor experiences safer and more enjoyable for everyone.
