June 8, 2022 – BHSH System welcomes Benjamin Schwartz, MD, MHCM, FACOG, FACS, as the new president of BHSH Beaumont Health, effective July 5.

“In the search for the new president of BHSH Beaumont Health, we were looking for a leader with the proven ability to drive excellence, a strong developer of teams and culture, a dynamic communicator, and a strategic and systems thinker. Dr. Schwartz exemplifies these qualities,” said Tina Freese Decker, President & CEO of BHSH System. “He is a visionary health care leader with a passion for taking health care into the future. He is also committed to fostering and inspiring a vibrant culture for our team at BHSH Beaumont Health, and for leading this team toward our bold vision.”

During Dr. Schwartz’s 27-year career, he has both provided care and served in executive and administrative leadership roles, with responsibility for hundreds of practices, six acute care hospitals and a behavioral health hospital. He comes to BHSH Beaumont Health from Northwell Health in New York, where he has served as senior vice president and a physician executive for the eastern region. He is an associate professor at several institutions and serves on the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Dallas.

“Beaumont Health has a reputation for excellence in clinical care, quality, education and research, with admired physicians, nurses and other team members,” said Dr. Schwartz. “The potential to advance their work and to chart a path forward with the BHSH System and BHSH Beaumont Health leadership team is exciting. I am honored to have been selected for this role and look forward to collaborating to achieve the vision of health made simple, affordable, equitable and exceptional.”

Dr. Schwartz completed his Bachelor of Arts at Dartmouth College. He graduated with a medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and earned a Master in Healthcare Management from Harvard University. In addition, he is board certified in gynecologic oncology as well as obstetrics and gynecology. He is widely published and invited to lecture and present on a variety of clinical topics. Dr. Schwartz has been named a New York “Top Doctor” in Gynecologic Oncology for the past six years.

“I’m confident Dr. Schwartz’s leadership, clinical expertise and shared vision for our integrated system will allow us to continue our excellent service, clinical research and extend our reach to improve health for our communities,” said Christopher Blake, Chair of the BHSH Beaumont Health Board of Directors. “I believe that our thorough, national search to select the new president has helped us identify an outstanding leader who will build on our strengths and take our organization to the next level.”

Freese Decker also recognized Nancy Susick, RN, for her many contributions as interim president for BHSH Beaumont Health. “I am grateful for Nancy’s dedication and steadfast leadership in the interim role for our organization. She is a highly respected leader, who lives our values every day.”
