Women United Celebrate an
Evening at The Emerson House
La Porte, IN---
United Way of La Porte County hosted a recent Meet & Greet event at the
Emerson House in Michigan City. The event started off with a self-guided tour
throughout the lovely wedding and event center while grazing the wine bar and
charcuterie table. Once all were in attendance, Kris Pate and Ellen Meihofer detailed
the history and accomplishments of Women United through the years and the
important role that they play in the community. Event attendees shared their
suggestions for the group’s future endeavors and opportunities to impact the
county.
What is Women United? Women United is a global, growing
force of 70,000+ women dedicated to creating a world of opportunity—for
everyone. The mission of Women United is “to mobilize the power of women’s
philanthropy to advance the common good in our community.” Locally, Women
United of La Porte County focuses on educating the community about the causes,
implications, and ways to fight poverty.
After carefully
considering potential impact areas to focus on, the group chose Promoting
Financial Stability and Independence in La Porte County. They are committed to
building a stronger financial future for individuals and families. Rising
prices and job instability paint a gloomy picture, but United Way of La Porte
County’s Women United believes we can all play a role in help hard-working
families put their lives back together.
“We want to energize and inspire women to take leadership
roles within their communities and to make a difference by advocating for
important issues,” said Kris Pate, President and CEO of United Way of La Porte
County. “Members join together in their belief that the building blocks for a
good life—education, income, and health—lift the community as a whole and
create a better life for us all. Women can stand-up, unite, and take action on
issues that hit closest to home through philanthropy and service,” she added.
“There are several exciting Women United events planned over
the next year or so,” said Ellen Meihofer, United Way’s Director of Community
Engagement. “We will host a Power of the Purse event on Thursday September 8,
2022 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Uptown Social in Michigan City. This will be a
ticketed event. If you have attended our POP event in the past, this one will
look much different! Those who would like to help raise funds for financial
stability in La Porte County can purchase an event ticket, and individuals,
businesses, social/service groups, etc. can donate a brand new name brand purse
stuffed with themed accessories for the event auction. We are challenging
everyone to get creative and have fun, whether the theme revolves around a
business, hobby, or it’s decked out in glitter, the sky’s the limit! Grab a ticket
and join us for a fun girl’s night out! Please visit the Event tab on our
website for more,” Added Meihofer.
