Reins of Life, Inc., is a
therapeutic horseback riding center with barns in Michigan City and South Bend.
They have served children and adults with disabilities since 1978. If you like
being outside, helping others, and horses, this is the perfect place for you!
Volunteers don’t have to have any horse experience, as they will teach you what
you need to know to volunteer in riding lessons and/or feeding shifts. If you
like being outside but the cold weather is limiting your options, volunteering
at Reins might be the perfect fit. It is a fun environment where you get to
exercise, meet new people and spend time with big, furry friends.
The Michigan City barn is offering
new volunteer training on Monday, October 31 from 2-4:30 p.m. CT and Wednesday,
November 2 from 5:30-8 p.m. CT. You only need to attend one session to become
certified to volunteer in lessons. Those interested in feeding have several
separate training options per week. To sign up for training, please call the
Michigan City volunteer coordinator at 219-874-7519 ext. 202. After this
initial training, there are additional opportunities to volunteer in
therapeutic carriage driving and interactive vaulting classes. You must be 13
years old to volunteer.
