of its Paint by Red Wings
Numbers contest. Hunter Pope of Imlay City, Michigan, won the
$5,000 cash prize for his piece entitled Wings
Flying on Glass, which will be installed in the Rehmann Club at
Little Caesars Arena in The District Detroit.
“Hunter’s piece was a high-quality work of art that beautifully captured the essence of what the judges were looking for in this contest,” said Chris Rosmarin, a principal at Rehmann and one of three judges on the panel. “Seeing the Paint by Red Wings Numbers contest come to a close is bittersweet, but it has demonstrated just how beloved Michigan’s national hockey team is by fans from all over.”
Paint by Red Wings Numbers launched
in mid-November of last year and invited participants to submit hockey-themed
artwork that honored key players, dates, and milestones in the Red Wings
history.
“We congratulate Hunter on winning the Paint
by Red Wings Numbers contest,” said Molly Wurdack-Folt, Vice President of Corporate Partnerships Activation. “It will be special to see his work prominently displayed near the Rehmann Club at Little Caesars Arena.”
Pope’s acrylic 24” by 30” painting incorporates numbers from retired jerseys, alongside a hockey player in red with the Detroit skyline in the background. The image features triangular elements that Pope says resemble broken glass or ice.
“I have my significant other and her family to thank for introducing me to the adrenaline rush that is watching hockey,” Pope said. “I also want to thank Rehmann and the Red Wings for providing this opportunity and supporting art in our community. I am honored and forever grateful to everyone who has supported my art–it is all of you who truly inspire me.”
