Job Overview:
We are seeking a Nonprofit Financial Assistant
to join our team and support the day-to-day financial operations of our
organization. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience in
finance or accounting, preferably within the nonprofit sector. This role is
integral to ensuring accurate financial records, supporting budgeting and
reporting processes, and assisting with various accounting tasks to promote the
efficient management of funds.
Key Responsibilities:
- General Accounting:
- Assist
with processing accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Support
the preparation of financial reports, including monthly and year-end
financial statements.
- Reconcile
bank statements and maintain accurate records of transactions.
- Ensure
proper documentation and filing of transactions through Quickbooks,
PayPal, GiveSmart.
- Budgeting and
Forecasting:
- Support
the Founder & CEO and finance team in the preparation of annual
budgets and forecasts.
- Monitor
budget performance and assist with variance analysis.
- Assist
team with budget tracking and reporting.
- Grant Management:
- Help
with tracking and reporting on grant funds, ensuring compliance with
grant requirements.
- Prepare
financial reports for funders, highlighting expenditures and project
outcomes.
- Help manage
restricted and unrestricted fund tracking.
- Financial
Compliance and Audit Preparation:
- Assist
in the preparation of documents and reports for audits and regulatory
filings.
- Ensure
compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain
accurate records for tax filing and ensure the proper handling of donor
contributions, providing tax receipts, recording in-kind goods &
services, monetary gifts, etc.
- Other Duties:
- Perform
other duties as assigned by the Founder & CEO and Finance Director.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of
experience in finance, accounting, with a preference for nonprofit sector
experience.
- Associate’s degree or higher,
in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Software proficiency
(e.g., QuickBooks) & Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Publisher.
- Understanding of
nonprofit financial regulations and accounting principles.
- Detail-oriented with
the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication
skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work
independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work at a
desk for extended periods and lift up to 10 lbs. occasionally for office
tasks.
