Leadership Enrichment: The Conflict Cycle & Systems Thinking

In February's Leadership Enrichment meeting, Adam Mayhew, Dean of Undergraduate Business Programs at the College of Business at Baker College, brings his expertise in business ethics, leadership, and conflict management to help participants navigate challenges and build collaborative solutions.

In his presentation, Adam will discuss:

Conflict Cycle

  • What it Means: The conflict cycle refers to the stages that conflicts often go through, from inception to resolution. Recognizing these stages helps in addressing conflicts early and preventing escalation.

Systems-thinking

  • What it Means: A holistic approach that considers conflicts part of a larger system rather than isolated events. This involves understanding how different factors, people, and systems interact and influence the conflict.

Candid Communications

  • What it Means: Open, honest, and respectful communication where all parties involved express their thoughts, feelings, and concerns directly without manipulation or avoidance.

Resolutions

  • What it Means: The process of finding a solution to the conflict that addresses the needs and interests of all parties involved, resulting in a mutual agreement or understanding.
