Panola Orchard and Gardens is owned by long-time farmer, John Alexander, and his wife Judy. John has been in the farming industry since 1971, and began specializing in blueberries in 1992.
After starting a successful commercial blueberry business, John received the Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 1997.
In 2005, John and Judy took a break from farming and enjoyed retirement; however, John began missing the work he had done for so many years.
Their daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Jason Martin, had an interest in farming as well, so in 2011, Panola Orchard and Gardens was established in De Berry, Texas. We wanted to be able to offer our customers a variety of fruits, so we decided to expand our crops. Our largest crop is blueberries! We have 90 acres of blueberries that is picked by a commercial harvester, sorted, packaged, and shipped in the United States. We also have an additional 5 acre blueberry U-Pick field.
We have 22 acres of peach trees and one acre of plum trees. Each year we plant approximately 100,000 strawberry plants for customers to pick. Our newest addition to our farm is Christmas trees. We grow and sell leyland cypress trees. We offer "you choose, we cut" or you can cut your own tree down using one of our saws.
We have a 2300 square foot, air conditioned Farm Store where customers can get their buckets for picking berries, pick out their selection of our homegrown peaches, plums, and vegetables; shop for preserves, salsa, and many more gourmet food items; or cool off with a lemonade or ice cream.
Panola Gardens is a proud member of our community and currently members of the Panola County Chamber of Commerce, Go Texan, Texas Fruit Growers Association, Ark-La-Tex Blueberry Growers Association, PickYourOwn.org, and LocalHarvest.org
During Christmas tree season our farm store is full of unique Christmas gifts. We have a fire pit outside to enjoy, and we keep our farm store nice and warm. During Christmas tree season we have hot apple cider and hot chocolate for sell as well as homemade pecan pies.
