TAMIU
CERAMICS STUDENTS DONATES 500 BOWLS TO THE SOUTH TEXAS FOOD BANK
Laredo, TX (November 2,
2018) The South Texas Food Bank was delighted to know that students
from TAMIU, Texas A&M International University, was enthusiastic about
helping the food bank in a new and creative way. Under the direction of Natasha
Hovey, Assistant Professor, and Dr. James Moyer, Assistant Professor and Chair
of TAMIU’s Department of Fine & Performing Arts, the TAMIU Ceramics
Students donated 500 beautifully handcrafted bowls.
The donated bowls will be
used to help the South Texas Food Bank’s fundraising efforts. Through
fundraising, the South Texas Food Bank is able to spread hunger awareness and
raise funds to continue to deliver food to many needy individuals.
The South Texas Food Bank is
frequently visited by TAMIU students who come in to volunteer and put in the
man hours to help us help the thousands that go hungry in our South Texas
communities. Community oriented organizations and individuals plays a
significant role in the continuation of our non-profit organization and its
programs. The Commodity Supplemental Food Program helps over 9,500 senior
citizens, while the Adopt-A-Family program helps over 28,000 family units in
our communities.
Diego Canales from the TAMIU
Ceramics Students shared his thoughts during the special presentation of the
bowls. “It is amazing to see the finalized product and what these bowls will
help the food bank accomplish. Everybody wins in this situation. We help the
food bank and my love for ceramic bowl crafting grows.”
Alma Boubel, STFB Executive
Director commented, “It is through these partnerships and the help we receive
from the public that we are able to deliver hope to many needy families. The
food bank is beyond grateful to have received this beautiful donation from the
very talented TAMIU Ceramics Students.” For more information about the South
