Briggs Equipment, a subsidiary of Sammons Enterprises, provided a dontation to South Texas Food Bank last week at their offices in Laredo. 

Uriel Verazzi, Operations Manager for Briggs Equipment, said that despite the difficult economic situation we are going through, giving back to the community continues to be part of their mission. "For our organization, giving back to the communities we serve is very important and part of our business model, not only in Laredo, but in all communites we operate in across the country."

He added that they help various non-profit organizations throughout the year with volunteer hours, monetary donations, and industrial equipment rentals to help cover some of these organizations' needs. This donation was brought about due to the challenges that were created by the COVID-19 epidemic.

"We help a wide range of charities during the course of the year, and this donation came from a conversation that our team members were having, discussing the impacts that COVID-19 has had in our community", he added. "We know the great work that the South Texas Food Bank does to provide meals to our most vulnerable neighbors and we felt that this contribution was necessary to help support their mission."

Camilla Sosa, Marketing Director for the South Texas Food Bank, thanked Briggs Equipment's support. "We are very thankful for Briggs Equipment's donation. We have partnered up over the years and they have always helped support our goal to fight hunger in South Texas," she said. "We hope to continue with this mission and our partnership with Briggs Equipment."

Sosa said that the donation made to the South Texas Food Bank will help deliver 50,000 meals to families in need.

"Everything that we receive is given back to our community and we wouldn't be able to do our work withough the support of organizations and businesses like Briggs Equipment, who always offers a hand", Sosa mentioned.

Mr. Verazzi said that besides the monetary donation, they worked together with the South Texas Food bank by providing forklifts and equipment needed for a meal drive that took place at the Sames Arena over the weekend.

"We thank Mrs. Boubel and her team for all that they do for our community and we ask that whoever has the opportunity to help, please reach out and give a hand. The organization needs volunteers to help direct the increased volume of traffic, put together meal kits, and other tasks", said Verazzi. "We know that during these times, it may be more difficult to contribute economically, but if you have a couple of hours available in your week, please consider helping out and contact the South Texas Food Bank's offices to see how you can contribute. There is a lot of work to do and any support is welcome."

South Texas Food Bank provides over 130,000 meals per month. Sosa ended saying, "We invite any person in need for food to visit our facility so we can provide the help they need if they are unemployed due to the COVID-19 emergency." For more information, please call (956) 726-3120.
