Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region (BBBSCR) recognizes high school seniors for graduation and scholarship presentation.

BBBSCR hosted a graduation celebration and award ceremony at The State Museum of PA on Wednesday, May 22, to recognize 90 graduating high school seniors in their program. The organization recognized both mentees (Littles) and volunteer high school mentors (Bigs). The graduating seniors hail from 18 local high schools across Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry & York Counties.

Among the recognized graduates are mentees who participated in BBBSCR’s Beyond School Walls workforce development program. The Beyond School Walls program connects high school students with mentors from area businesses and guides the students in developing professional and life skills.

Four graduates addressed their peers and spoke about embracing leadership roles and the impact mentorship has had on the lives of all assembled.

BBBSCR President & CEO Amy Rote spoke to the graduates, “As you stand at the threshold of a new chapter in your lives, we celebrate not only your academic achievements but also the incredible journey you have undertaken as part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.”

A total of $11,000 in scholarships were awarded to graduating seniors thanks to: BBBSCR’s Elliott Riegler Scholarship ($1,000), Capital Blue Cross (three $1,000 scholarships), the Hall Foundation (two $1,000 scholarships), Junior League of Harrisburg ($1,500), Stonebridge Financial Group (two $1,000 scholarships), and Jason Pruitt & the Lancaster County Community Foundation (three $500 scholarships).
