Friendship Botanic Gardens to Host Africa Heritage Garden Dedication

On Sunday, June 16th at 12:30 pm CDT, Friendship Botanic Gardens will host a special dedication ceremony for the Africa Garden, in honor of Juneteenth National Independence Day.

The Africa Garden represents the culmination of efforts of many community organizations and individuals. The dedication ceremony will feature remarks from the community leaders whose hard work has made the Africa Garden possible, including Arthur Payne Jr. and members of the Baptist Ministerial Society. Michigan City Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch will also deliver special remarks to honor the rich cultural legacy of African American history in our community.

The garden features unique “Peace Poles” designed by African American artist Carolyn Eliane and built by Lithuanian Artist Vida Kluko. Guests are invited to celebrate the African Garden on Sunday, June 16th at 12:30-1:00pm CDT. Small treats will be available.
