What: 2024 "Citywide Back-to-School Rally" School Supply Drive
Who: The Citywide Back-to-School Rally Organizing Committee (Indiana Black Expo, the LaPorte County NAACP, Anthem, Franciscan Health, Michigan City Area Schools, LaPorte County YMCA, Salvation Army, and Sodexo.) - with help from area businesses and community members!
Why: Many students in our community do not have the necessary supplies to start the school year. Help us make sure all students in Michigan City are prepared to learn! (All supplies collected will be distributed to Michigan City Area School teachers and principals to help in the classroom during the upcoming school year.
How YOU can help: Place a collection box at your place of business and encourage employees and/or patrons to donate supplies (NOW through August 8). Use the attached flyer to place on the collection box. THEN bring the supplies you collected to the MCAS administration building (408 S Carroll Ave.) on Friday, August 9th, between 9:00 a.m. and noon.
Suggested Donations: antibacterial wipes, colored pencils, composition books, crayons, dry erase markers, facial tissues, glue sticks, highlighters, index cards (3x5), markers (washable), pencil boxes, pencils, pens, pink erasers, scissors, spiral notebooks, 2-pocket folders, 3-hole notebook paper (college rule is especially needed), 3-ring binders/organizers, Ziploc bags (quart and gallon)
Monetary donations for the purchase of supplies will also be accepted - made payable to Michigan City Area Schools.
Goal: 10,000 items donated. Can we do it???
