The Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce (CDCC) hosted a Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for KenCrest, on Wednesday, September 18 at 11 a.m. The event was held at 1113 S. Governors Avenue in Dover. Chamber members and friends joined the team at KenCrest to celebrate their First Anniversary as a Chamber member, with eyes looking forward to 2025, which will mark the 120th Anniversary of KenCrest’s diligent work in our community.

During the mid-1980s, when adults with disabilities were beginning to transition out of institutional settings and into more community-integrated environments and neighborhoods, KenCrest began providing residential services in Delaware. For almost 120 years, KenCrest has supported adults and children with an intellectual or developmental disability through residential options, community engagement supports, early intervention, enabling technology, and their Early Learning Centers. KenCrest’s Delaware footprint includes adult residential group homes statewide and the birth to three programs through the Delaware Department of Disability Services (DDDS). All their services seek to increase a person’s quality of life based on desires, preferences, and goals.

The mission of KenCrest is to support community development by exploring possibilities, mobilizing resources, and empowering dreams. They provide Home and Community Based Services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities across the state of Delaware. In addition, they also provide housing, transportation and staffing to individuals seeking services and focus on providing the quality of care which promotes safety, skill development, and advancement towards independence. The team at KenCrest believes in helping everyone, no matter their age, ability, or environment, to achieve their dreams and goals.

The folks at KenCrest are eager to find ways to give back. They are active members in the community and have made great relationships with partner organizations. They continually work with the Department of Disability Services to remain in compliance with all the latest federal Medicaid standards and continue to provide the best possible services to their clients. They have worked with various advocacy groups to amend legislation and shine a spotlight on not only the people they serve, but the staff who care for them daily.

KenCrest’s newest program, Meaningful Day, which opened in 2023, seeks to involve participants in various volunteer programs. This not only connects them with the community but also engages them in various skills, which leads to a heightened sense of self-confidence. They are constantly seeking new opportunities to spread awareness of their organization so they can assist more people.
