Kent County Public Library Holds First Costume Giveaway
Dover, DE
09/23/2024 03:20 PM

Kent County Public Library is hosting a Costume Give-away to families with Kent County-issued library cards, while supplies last. The event is free and open to parents and their children. There is no cost to attend and the costumes are available at no cost -- while they last. The Giveaway kicks off on Sunday, October 13th at 1:30 p.m.

"One of my favorite childhood memories was winning a small prize in a holiday parade for my Halloween costume," says Dr. Hilary Welliver, director of Kent County Public Library (497 S Red Haven Lane, Dover). "Costumes have come a long way since then," she adds, "But I still think children get very excited about dressing up and being out after dark to collect treats!"

Parents must bring their child/children, as well as their Kent County-issued library card, with them to the Costume Giveaway and may only select one costume to fit each child accompanying them. Costumes are given away, "as is," and cannot be tried on. When the costumes are all chosen (or it is 4:30 p.m.) the event will end.

Kent County Public Library is asking the community to give this first-time event a boost by donating clean, gently used costumes (but please no wigs or masks). These can be dropped off at the library’s Circulation Desk between October 1-11. Donors names will be put into a gift card drawing, to encourage participation.

"This is a great way to support children and families throughout Kent County," states Dr. Welliver. "Every year, kids outgrow their costumes – still in excellent shape and just waiting for another chance at life this October. We are looking forward to handing them out to excited kids!"
