The Corrections Mail Clerk is responsible for performing administrative and various clerical tasks, and responding to inquiries from the public and other agencies. Duties include:

  • Processing, sorting, and distributing incoming and outgoing inmate mail;
  • Inspecting all mail for traces of possible drugs;
  • Communicating with the public in person and by phone and routing callers appropriately;
  • Performing computer tasks such as answering inmate requests via computer messaging and maintaining inmate phone databases;
  • Processing releases inmate checks and funds disbursement requests; and
  • Maintaining staff and visitor accountability logs.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent;
  • 3 years of general office experience with typing speed of 40 words per minute
  • Ability to interact with the public, released offenders, law enforcement, and other agencies effectively while maintaining confidentiality;
  • Good verbal and written communication skills;
  • Proficient computer skills;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and vendors;
  • Experience in the use of standard office software;
  • Excellent communication, multi-tasking, and filing skills;
  • Valid Driver’s License; and
  • Ability to pass background check and drug testing.
