The American Songbook: Known as
standards, they are the canons of the most important and influential American
popular songs and jazz standards from the early 20th century. Composers
represented include George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Billy Strayhorn, Hoagy
Carmichael, Harold Arlen, Duke Ellington, Irving Berlin and Jerome Kern, just
to name a few. Selections will be performed by Rob Laney, Rick Rainey, Dr.
Hyeyoung Song and Miss Sandra Kaye.
Vocalist Sandra Kaye has moved in many musical directions, from jazz, R&B to
jingles for radio and TV. She has performed throughout the US and
internationally in Japan, China, France, Greece, Spain and other countries
across the globe. Bessie Smith, Dinah Washington, Peggy Lee, Sarah Vaughn, and
Rosemary Clooney are some of her favorite singers. After hearing all these
great singers she knew that she was destined to sing the music from the Great
American Song Book. Sandra was recognized in 2016 as the Sammons (Dallas) Jazz
Artist of the Year.
