It tells the story of a socialite whose wedding plans are complicated by the simultaneous arrival of her ex-husband and an attractive journalist. Written as a vehicle for Katharine Hepburn, its success marked a reversal of fortunes for the actress, who was one of the film stars deemed "box office poison" in 1938.

This academic year, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma’s Nita R. Giles Public Policy Program will host “Meet the Candidates,” a series of public forums where the contenders in Oklahoma’s 2018 gubernatorial election can discuss their platforms.

Republican and current Oklahoma City mayor, Mick Cornett, Republica, will speak March 5.

The candidate will have the opportunity to give a short presentation of his politics and policies in the USAO Ballroom, followed by a question and answer period with the audience.

The forum will be held at 7 p.m. and is free of charge. The public is encouraged to attend.

Dr. Stephen Weber Composition Concert

Dr. Stephen Weber, chair of the Division of Arts and Humanities and professor of music at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, will perform a concert of his own compositions on March 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Annex on the USAO campus. The performance is free and open to the public.

The concert will feature several compositions for voice, piano, woodwinds, percussion and guitar, as well as two short films, created in collaboration with USAO videographer David Duncan, for which Weber wrote the soundtracks.

Mooney combines high-brow art with low-brow fun in a performance that is like a bingo game: he knows pieces from all of Shakespeare’s works, but the selection of sonnets and monologues is chosen at random while the audience plays along!

ArtScope and ArtScope STUDIO 2018

 

ArtScope, an activity of the Chickasha Area Arts Council (CAAC), is a two-week, summer arts day camp for children, ages 8 to 12. Campers will study ‘The Arts’ through drawing, painting, sculpting, theatre, dance, and music experiences, as well as learn from special presentations by guest artists. 

 

ArtScope STUDIO, is designed specifically for 13-18 year old students. Participants will be involved in an in-depth three-hour Visual Arts study for the two weeks of ArtScope.  

An ArtScope and STUDIO Showcase will be held on the final day of camp to display the students' visual artworks and  to have performances in music and dance as well as a theatrical production.

Some scholarships may be available for those who qualify.

Twisterfest Music Festival

Twisterfest Music Festival

Muscle Car Ranch will hold its fourth Twisterfest music festival again this year on June 15th – 17th.

Twisterfest 2018 will feature the iconic 1970s era band Firefall along with headliners Ramsay Midwood and Jonathan Tyler.

Twisterfest is dedicated to showcasing the local talent in Oklahoma and nearby, and this year Twisterfest 2018 will feature more than 75 bands of diverse genre that include indie, alternative rock, rock, hip-hop, country, bluegrass and more. Notable bands such as Space4Lease, Cosmic Wool, Cashroh, Rance May, Bryon White, Will Courtney, Atlantis Aquarius, Dylan Stewart, Captain Ledge Band, Carol Morgan, Dead Flowers, Rousey, Hiway 67, the Tito Lindsey Band and dozens more will be there for your viewing and listening pleasure. 

Friday night, June 15, Daredevil “Dr Danger” will perform some of his signature “Death-Defying” stunts which includes his “Suicide Car Explosion” which entails two pounds of explosives and twenty gallons of gasoline being placed on a car.

Dr. Danger gets in, and flips a switch. KABOOM! Now all he has to do is GET OUT!

Curtis Hart and his Muscle Car Ranch have been hosting famous Rock and Roll Hall of Fame groups and world-renowned artists since 1992 at the Muscle Car Ranch – which many artists have said is the coolest Americana venue in the nation. 

Muscle Car Ranch is set on a 100-year-old dairy farm decorated with vintage neon and porcelain signs that run throughout 62 acres of land and lakes. Plenty of campsites are available, and Recreational Vehicle sites are available too.

Admission for a day pass is $20 for each day, and $35 for the entire weekend – which includes camping.RV sites are available, but limited, and have an additional cost  depending on length of stay and hookup availability.
