Tammy, a native Missourian, discovered her love for writing while enjoying the State's lakes and waterways. The sites and sounds of nature inspired her to write poems and short stories of her experiences. Helping others receive the care and services they need to lead a healthy, happy life also inspires Tammy, who applies her gift of storytelling in the nonprofit sector. With over 20 years of experience as a technical writer, editor, and project manager, she has made a significant impact. As a Grants Manager, Tammy wrote over 100 proposals during her three-year tenure, with a 98%-win ratio and more than doubled grant funding. Her efforts resulted in the nonprofit receiving over $13.2 million in funding, including $7.1 million, toward its capital campaign. Notably, her work was instrumental in the nonprofit's success during the pandemic, a time when many businesses and nonprofits struggled to survive. As a consultant, her clients received over $3 million in grant funding, including six-figure opportunities. Tammy attributes her success to her ability to combine her love of writing with her passion for helping others succeed.
Tammy applies her strategic planning, project management, and critical thinking strengths to help design and build sustainable grant programs. Through her work at the City Union Mission, she was the first individual to receive the Associate Director Award for creating the infrastructure for the nonprofit's first grant program in its 93+ year history. She thrives when helping nonprofits build or strengthen their programs.
Tammy's love for writing extends beyond her profession into her private life, where she dabbles in writing non-fiction and poetry. Her second obsession is cooking; she is a self-proclaimed amateur chef, wine enthusiast, and bourbon connoisseur. She and her husband Mitch enjoy hosting themed food and wine pairings with family and friends.
