The Boy Scouts of America was established in 1910 with the mission to prepare young people to make ethical choices over their lifetimes by installing in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. Since 1976 the Northern Lights Council has been the council chartered by the BSA to provide program support to Scout units in all of North Dakota, and parts of Minnesota, Montana, and South Dakota. The Scouting program serves youth through age appropriate programs (units) designed to complete the mission of the organization. Cub Scout Packs: Cub Scouting is for youth Kindergarten through 5th grade with activities and programs that encourage families to be involved with their son. Scouts BSA Troops: Scouts BSA (historically called Boy Scouts) is youth lead for young men and women 11 to 18 years of age and involves a diverse program designed to instill character, citizenship, and fitness through outdoor and leadership opportunities. Exploring Clubs & Posts: Exploring is a co-ed youth program for young men and women in the 6th grade thru 20 years old. The program offers hands-on career discovery through interactive activities that help youth pursue special interests, grow, and develop.Sea Scout Ships:  Sea Scouting has promoted better citizenship and improved members’ boating skills through instruction and practice in water safety, boating skills, outdoor, social, service experiences, and knowledge of our maritime heritage. Venture Crews: Venturing is a coed program for young people 14 to 21 with emphasis on leadership development, outdoor and life experiences and interaction with adult volunteers. Since 1930 we have operated The Big 4 Scout Camp in Minot.
