CCPS Outdoor School held their first ever Environmental Mentor Week January 28th- 31st. Counselors from local high schools were picked from various weeks earlier this year by Outdoor school staff based on their achievements and extraordinary work at camp Hashawa. Four students from FSK attended the week, along with South Carroll, Liberty and century students. During the Environmental Mentor week, the high school counselors participated in hikes and had the opportunity to help teach class. The chosen students will be mentioned in their graduation programs along with receiving a rope for their gown. The program initially started to acknowledge high school students that spare a week of school to help handle and create an amazing experience for local 6th  grade students. Congratulations to the first ever Environmental Mentors!

FSK’s 2018 yearbook, The Eagle, earned the school’s fourth silver medal from CSPA in an overall competition. For the first time ever, The Eagle has placed third nationally in the category of sports photography, specifically for the bird’s-eye picture of boys tennis player Jake Lamb (’20) attributed to Camille DeSanto (’18).

The Columbia Scholastic Press Association announced the winners from its 36th Gold Circle Awards program. This year, these categories attracted 5309 yearbook and digital media entries submitted in 91 categories.

These entries come from publications produced by students at colleges, universities, and secondary schools through the United States and abroad who follow an American education plan.

Entries were accepted from student yearbooks and digital media publications published from October 11, 2017 through October 1, 2018. Student journalists working on these print or electronic media chose from 39 yearbook categories and 41 digital media categories.

In summary, judges cited a total of 747 winners for yearbook and digital media for either First, Second or Third Place or for Certificates of Merit for those deemed worthy of honorable mention in a category. Entry categories included those for yearbooks and for digital (online) media, in its annual competition for individual achievement by student writers, editors, designers and photographers.

Columbia Scholastic Press Association - CSPA is an international student press association, founded in 1925, whose goal is to unite student journalists and faculty advisers at schools and colleges through educational conferences, idea exchanges, textbooks, critiques and award programs.
