Non-Traditional Employment Options are Focus of Conference for Middle School Girls
Eighth-grade girls from middle schools across LaPorte County will gather at the A. K. Smith Career Center in Michigan City on October 22 for the N.E.W. (Non-traditional Employment for Women) conference, to learn about careers in which women are traditionally under-represented. The girls will take part in roundtable discussions led by professional women from across the region and will try hands-on activities exposing them to diverse careers.
WHO: Keynoting the event is Dr. Sandra Wood, Superintendent of the LaPorte Community School Corporation. Special guests leading roundtable discussions and demonstrations will include female professionals from several companies and organizations.
WHEN: Wednesday, October 22, 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Central Time
• Keynote address at 9:15 a.m.
• Roundtable presentations 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.
• Hands-on "try it" sessions at 12:00 (welding, machining, construction, automotive tech, fire, criminal justice, and energy/electronics)
