I am pleased to share that Benjamin Schwartz, MD, MHCM, FACOG, FACS, will be the new president of BHSH Beaumont Health, reporting to me, effective July 5. It was clear when I first met Ben that he is enthusiastic about BHSH Beaumont Health and our vision. He is an energetic, visionary health care leader with a passion for making health care exceptional, equitable and affordable. He is committed to fostering our culture to support our mission, vision and values, and to develop partnerships with our team members, physicians, nurses and community members. He admires our reputation for excellence in clinical care, education and research, and looks forward to collaborating with all of us to advance our vision. He is excited to join our system and be part of our thriving community.

Dr. Schwartz joins us from Northwell Health in New York, where he most recently served as senior vice president and the physician executive for the eastern region. His 27-year career has increasingly widened his circle of influence-both as a practicing physician and as an administrator and leader with responsibility for hundreds of practices, six acute care hospitals and a behavioral health hospital. He is passionate about teaching and inspiring the next generation of physicians, serving as an associate professor at several institutions and administering oral exams for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Dallas. Dr. Schwartz has been named a New York “Top Doctor” in Gynecologic Oncology for the past six years.

His academic credentials include a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College, a medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and a Master in Healthcare Management from Harvard University. He is board certified in gynecologic oncology as well as obstetrics and gynecology.

He and his family are looking forward to relocating to Michigan and engaging with our community.

I want to thank the BHSH Beaumont Health Board, search committee members, physicians, executives and many others who participated in the extensive search process and helped interview candidates for this position. We are grateful for your time commitment and feedback.  

Additionally, I am incredibly grateful for Nancy Susick, RN, as she has served in the interim president role for the last five months. She has been helpful in providing steady leadership to our team, putting in place several process improvements, and engaging with our system to make substantial progress on our integration. Please join me in thanking Nancy for serving so diligently in this interim role.
