Courtesy of PNC Foundation, which receives its principal funding from The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. (www.pnc.com), two winners will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship and a framed copy of their winning photo on Saturday, January 17, at 11:30 a.m. at Cranbrook Institute of Science during an event honoring all the program participants, each of whom will receive a signed “Women of Vision” exhibition catalog.
“Youth View Detroit” brought twenty-three young women from Detroit School of Arts, Detroit International Academy of Women, and Cranbrook Kingswood Schools for three themed-workshops that included the use of photography as an autobiographical form, the function of photography as a form of cultural memory, and photography as performance.
Twelve photographers completed the three-photo-portfolio requirement for final judging. The photos were evaluated by a panel of judges from the Center for Creative Studies based on technical excellence, composition, artistic merit, and overall impact.
The “Women of Vision” exhibition opened to the public in October 2013 at the National Geographic Museum in Washington, D.C. before arriving at Cranbrook Institute of Science where it was on view from September through December 2014.
