The Roads Division Inventory Specialist is responsible for the administrative and technical work in the coordination of purchasing and inventory control functions. This role:

  • Confers with vendors regarding the purchase of specialized items relating to equipment maintenance and repairs as required;
  • Researches and consults vendors, catalogs, and the internet to obtain quotes and specifications;
  • Maintains files, office records, and other official documents as required;
  • Assembles/researches materials from files and records for use in preparing reports, summaries, tabulation, and office correspondence;
  • Receives phone calls and answers inquires as appropriate;
  • Assists in the development of preventative maintenance schedules and fleet repairs/warranty work with vendors. Maintains repair records as required;
  • Maintains vehicle inventory items and associated records, orders and distributes inventory items, obtains quotes from approved vendors, and secures repair estimates as needed; and
  • Ensures operators/vehicles are outfitted with appropriate safety equipment and are properly certified.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED, supplemented with typing, accounting, and/or vocational course work in automotive mechanics;
  • 2 years’ experience in fleet repair operations or an equivalent combination of related training and experience;
  • Knowledge of modern office and record keeping practices;
  • Considerable knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet programs;
  • Ability to present ideas clearly and concisely verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and vendors;
  • Ability to prioritize work and work independently;
  • Valid driver’s license; Homeland Security and Fire Extinguisher Certifications or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire;
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire;
  • Willingness to be on call 24/7 for emergencies; and
  • Ability to pass background check and drug testing.
