The Groundskeeper is responsible for all landscaping and ground maintenance of the College using hand and power tools or landscaping equipment. This position directly supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in landscaping or grounds-keeping activities, including volunteers and student workers.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Mow and edge lawns
  • Shovel snow from walks, driveways, or parking lots and spread salt
  • Care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, or trimming or edging around flower beds, walks, or walls.
  • Mix and spray fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, or trees using sprayers or spreaders
  • Prune or trim trees, shrubs, or hedges using chainsaws or pole saws
  • Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, plaza, planters, or other outdoor features
  • Inventory tools, equipment, and materials to ensure that sufficient supplies are available and in usable condition
  • Maintain or repair tools, equipment, or structures as needed
  • Purchase supplies and parts
  • Establish and enforce operating procedures and work standards that will ensure adequate performance and personnel safety
  • Monitor project activities to ensure that instructions are followed, deadlines are met, and schedules are maintained
  • Assist with other maintenance projects as needed
 
Requirements

Education & Experience

  • 1 year of landscaping or related experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Able to use pickups, tractors, riding mowers, street sweepers, golf carts, snow blowers, chainsaws, pole saws, sod cutters, pruning shears/saws
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel

  • Troubleshooting and critical thinking

  • Ability to determine the correct tools and equipment needed for a job

  • Valid driver’s license

Physical Requirements

  • Able to be exposed outdoors in all types of weather

  • Use of safety shoes, glasses, gloves, and hearing protection when needed

  • Exposure to contaminants

  • Exposure to loud noises while working in an open vehicle or using equipment

  • Ability to stand, sit, crawl, crouch

  • Frequently lift up to 25 pounds; occasionally lift up to 50 pounds

  • Arm hand steadiness, finger dexterity, manual dexterity, multi limb coordination
