The streets of downtown Birmingham will be filled with excitement as the annual Celebrate Birmingham Hometown Parade kicks off the summer on Sunday, May 19 at 1 pm. Along with fire trucks, police motorcycles, antique cars and floats, the City encourages local community groups, school groups, teams, scouts, and businesses to join the festivities and march in the parade. This year’s parade theme is ‘Red, White & Blue’.
“Participating in the parade is such a fun experience, and it offers vast exposure for teams and organizations,” said Celebrate Birmingham Chairperson Sandy Debicki. “It’s a great way to get involved with the community and become a part of a long-standing community tradition.”
Back by popular demand, the Whiskers & Waggles Pet Parade will allow kids to show off their favorite animal friends. Groups and individuals interested in participating in the pet parade are encouraged to complete a registration form at www.bhamgov.org/parade.
This year’s parade will start on South Old Woodward at Daines. It will travel north on Old Woodward, west on Maple, south on Bates and end in Shain Park, where children’s activities will be offered by the Junior League of Birmingham, music performed by the Birmingham Concert Band, food and more.
Those who would like to participate, volunteer or sponsor the parade may download forms at www.bhamgov.org/parade or call (248) 530-1880. Registration must be submitted by April 26.
