'THE ROAD TO COLLEGE: GETTING IN AND PAYING FOR IT’ FROM THE STUDENT CONNECTION
BIRMINGHAM, Mich., (Feb. 5, 2015) - To help students get into college and afford their education once there, The Student Connection will host “The Road to College: Getting In and Paying for It” on Feb. 11 and March 12 at The Bird & The Bread in Birmingham. The program is free and open to the public.
“The Road to College: Getting In and Paying for It” includes a presentation by Brigid Godvin, Academic Director of The Student Connection, and is sponsored by Danielle Workman, Financial Advisor of Morgan Stanley. Presented as an informal discussion, subjects covered include the real impact of curriculum on grades, admissions and scholarships; readying now for college entrance exams in the future; and understanding college savings plan options.
Parents of students in high-school and middle-school and their families are encouraged to attend. There is no fee, but pre-registration is required as space is limited. Participants are asked to register by phoning The Student Connection at (248) 594-3410.
“Getting into college and paying for school are seem like very different things, yet they are very much interconnected,” Ms. Godvin said. “We want to show parents and students how good grades can pay big dividends when getting into school. We also want parents and students to know there are things they can do now to help pay for their education.”
“The Road to College: Getting In and Paying for It” will be held in the Elm Room of The Bird & The Bread, located at 210 S. Old Woodward Ave., Birmingham, MI 48009. Held Wednesday, Feb 11 from 7-9 p.m., the program is free and open to the public. The program will be repeated on Thursday, March 1. Hors d’oeuvres will be served. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
The Student Connection presents ACT Boot Camps to help students achieve their highest scores on the test that can drive an admission. Upcoming Boot Camp includes a week-long camp February 16-20 for $250 including materials. Students can choose 9 a.m. to 12 noon or 6-9 p.m. program times. Camp is limited to eight students per session.
